refrigerant prices have gone crazy since april with r125 prices rising by rmb 30,000 to 40,000 yuan per ton within a month. refrigerant is facing an increasingly shortage of market supply especially for r125 and r32. more than 80%t refrigerant manufacturers are out of stock.
up to the end of april, hcfc-22 ex-factory bulk prices are rmb 17,000 to 17,500 yuan per ton, rising by rmb 2,500 to 2,700 yuan per ton.
hfc-134a ex-factory bulk prices range from rmb 30,000 to 32,000 yuan per ton. heat pump refrigerant meets a surge of demand, driving up the prices.
hfc-125 manufacturers withhold offer at the end of the month due to short supplies. most of inventories are for manufacturers’ self-consumption, though there are occasional offers ranging from rmb 60,000 to 85,000 yuan per ton with few amounts of actual transactions.
hfc-32 ex-factory bulk prices go up from rmb 22,000 - 23,000 yuan per ton earlier this month to rmb 30,000 - 31,000 yuan per ton, increasing by 42%.
hfc-410a ex-factory bulk prices are rmb 55,000-60,000 yuan per ton, the biggest gains for the month, seeing a severely short supply.
why do refrigerant prices go crazy?
1. most anhydrous acid manufacturers are under periodic overhaul for safety and environmental protection purposes. ahf, a raw material for refrigerant production is in short supply due to the arrival of rainy and flood seasons. refrigerant supplies are increasingly behind demands with soaring prices. acid consumptions boost sharply for increased startup loads, causing extremely shortage of ahf.
2. hydrofluoric acid of hfc is over 1.6 times that of hcfc. hfo is over 1.5 times hfc. thus hydrofluoric acid consumed by environmentally friendly refrigerant goes up greatly. in addition to this, the environment calls for stricter actions. it will be harder to resume production. as a result, hydrofluoric acid is short of supply.
in a word, refrigerant market will still have a supply crunch in may and some products run out of stock, leading to soaring prices.
